Even the precise depth data that is provided by SceneScan Pro is in some cases not enough for the 100% recognition of complex objects. What could be therefore more obvious than using additional color information? In other words, using color cameras instead of the usual monochrome cameras?
At the end of the year, Nerian implemented this feature at the request of many customers and prospects. The maximum frame rate is 50 fps at 640×480 resolution and 30 fps at 800 x 592 pixels. Although this is somewhat lower than with monochrome images, it is more than balanced out by the additional color information, when relevant objects are to be scanned.
Color cameras from renowned manufacturers are supported, our own color Karmin2 version will follow at the beginning of next year. Of course, our ROS module as well as our GenTL driver are supported!
The use of color makes sense if, in addition to the depth data, further information is required to reliably recognize an object. Examples include traffic sign recognition, fruit and vegetable sorting, bin picking, etc.
